We’ve all had it happen. No one can escape embarrassing moments. True, some are more embarrassing than others, but everyone has a story about a heart-beating-palm-sweating-cheeks-blushing moment where time stood still and you wanted to curl up and die.
I had an embarrassing moment happen recently when I was being interviewed on a live radio show. For 15 minutes I talked to the host, Don, about my new book. Now, this wasn’t one of those little radio shows in Smalltown, USA with a listening audience as big as your English class. No, it was a big kahuna show where people tuned in everyday because they liked Don the host because he was interesting and put on a good show. Only problem was that the host’s name wasn’t “Don.” It was “Dan.” At the end of the interview, the sound technician very kindly informed me of that small detail when we were off the air. I had called the host the wrong name throughout the entire interview. Ugh. Talk about embarrassing . . .
We may not be able to control those unexpected embarrassing moments, but we can choose how we react to them. In the situation above, I had two choices:
1) I could dwell on it for the rest of the day and beat myself up, or
2) I could laugh my head off and move on.
I chose #2 and now, when I think about it, I crack up. I’m not sure Don (whoops, I mean Dan) is cracking up yet, but oh well. Life is too short to dwell on such silly matters. And that is exactly what I told myself in the moments that immediately followed my embarrassing moment. The truth is, while it may be extremely embarrassing at the time, no one is really dwelling on it as much as you. Within moments, it is usually quickly forgotten. So, Dan, if you are reading this, I am really, really sorry I called you Don on your show, and I would love it if you would give me another chance in the future. If it makes you feel better, you can call me “Courtney” the entire show. It happens all the time.
What about you? Do you have an embarrassing moment to share?
In the fifth grade, we had “the talk” (if you know what I mean). That day at lunch, we had hamburgers and I ended up spilling ketchup all over the front of my khaki pants! I had to walk around for the rest of the day with a coat zipped up around my waist!
Jennifer, age 13
My most embarrassing moment would have to be when I thought that Sonic did home deliveries because I saw a sign on their door that said, “No deliveries between 11:30–1:30.” I didn’t know the sign was for the people delivering the food to them!
Amber, age 19
I was in church and had just gotten back from a senior trip to Washington, D.C. I was wearing an “I heart D.C.” shirt. Our pastor’s name just so happens to have the initials “DC.” He announced that he was preaching the next evening at a conference and told everyone that was planning to come to wear a T-shirt like mine. Then he called me to the front of the sanctuary to show the whole church my shirt. I turned ten shades of red.
Amanda, age 18
It would have to be when my mother sent a giant balloon with a big “16” on it to my school for my birthday. I wanted to die.
Rachel, age 16
One time my friend was joking around with her mom and threw her bra at her. Her mom picked it up and threw it back at her, but it ended up hitting me and the hooks got caught in my hair!
Amy, age 14
I was the new girl after we moved last year and no one could ever remember my name at school. They just called me “new girl.”
Maggie, age 12

When I was in 5th grade something personal fell out of my purse when I was running down my church halls.
If you have exsperienced something to do with this, you know how I feel.
My face turned bright red, even though
I thought I was alone.But greater was
my surprise when I relized two guys
standing nearby!

I was at Schlliterbahn with my friend and her older sister. We were waiting in a big line for the surfing ride. There is a giant place where the audience can sit, and watch under the shade. And there was a cute guy standing next to me, and I kinda laughed about it in my head because I figured he was going to go for my cute friend. I had confidence in myself that day, i didn't expect it but he started talking to me. We kinda flirted, until we got to the front of the line and i realized it was my turn. I had my boogie board and a smile on my face as i rushed through the waves, and i wiped out and i felt like my bottoms had came off, but then i realized it was my top, and i had just flashed everybody including the guy- we avoided each other the rest of the time-

I went to a really really small missions school a few years ago, (live in India)and me and my classmate had to give oral reports for the seventh grade class (I was in sixth grade) and i had to go to the bathroom really bad. However I was ALSO really nervous. The combination was not a good one and I peed in my pants!!!!!! One other bad thing was that the only 9th grader was there too!!!!!
Honestly, embarrasing does not cover it!

I was at a rollar skating party after our drama group's spring session was over. I fell down several times, as I am often a klutz. A lot of cute boys I knew were there, and I went pretty fast when they were opposite sides of me(easier view of me, plus my hair looks great streaming behind me). I went on that way for almost two hours.
Suddenly a lady stranger on the side stopped me, saying that my pants were ripped!
My cheeks went bright red and I just wanted to die. I was wearing two shirts, so I took off one and tied it around my waist. It looked very strange, because it bunched up.
Of course when I get home I find out my underwear is bright pink! Now my pants with about a five in. rip is hanging proudly on my wall.

In 6th grade at choir practice there were alot of backpacks and instrument cases. I was carefully swimming through them and I tripped over someones clarinet case and pretty much flipped. Every single 6th grade choir student was there! I don't know that anyone laughed but it was still really embarassing!!!

I've had so many embarrasing moments but one of the worst would be one time I was playing this game at night and I thought I would try and be real cool, so i started sprinting real fast and totally missed the massive rock right in front of me and I fully tripped over. I flew like 3metres and sprained my arm real bad. I couldn't even cry and the next day I was so weak I couldn't even pick up an empty PB jar.

When I was in 6th grade, this incredibly hot guy came up to me and said 'do you want to go to the movies saturday?' of course i was like 'ok'. Then gave me a funny look and was like 'i wasn't talking to you'. And he pointed behind me to his crush. I felt like dieing

I've had several embarrasing moments, but a more recent one was last summer. We were having a barbecue at my Uncle's and they invited several of their friends over one of which was my cousins' best friend, (he was really cute too).Anyway, I was sitting at one of the picnic tables directly across from him and he asked what I had done that day so I told him. Then while he was telling me what he had done, he unconsciously leaned forward putting his elbows on the table. Since the picnic table was very small,it left us about 6 in. apart, so I leaned backward holding on to ledge underneath the table.I had been sitting like that a couple minutes before my fingers slipped and I fell flat on my back on the ground! Then later we were shooting off fireworks and the guys accidentally knocked over a whole bunch so they all exploded. they were everywhere and coming toward us so we all started running the opposite way. Someone right next to me moved the chair out of their way and underneath me!!!!!!!!!! I wiped out! And that was all in the same evening!!!!!!!!!!!!

my most embarrasing moment would have to have been at school one day. we were working in groups on a history project. my friend needed something from accross the room, so i ran to get it. my biggest crush and almost boyfriend was standing right there, so i tried to be cool and sprint over there. however, i tripped over my own backpack, which was sitting on the floor, and skinned my knee so bad it bled for two days straight and my teacher had to get out the first aid kit to help me clean it up! it was so humiliating!!

My most embarrasing moment happened a few weeks ago at a family reunion. I was riding this horse with my cousin on the back when the horse got freaked because it's foal got chased over a fence. I had to jump off real quick but i didn't quite manage the smooth leap I was gunning for and ended up just falling straight off and hitting the ground. Man it hurt!

Well, My most embarrasing moment was me and my brother were fighting in the store and he step on my shoe and I fell on the ground in front of everyone. I will never forget that!

Ya so i had a massive crush on this guy at school,(who would usually talk to me and kind of like flirt and stuff) and not only did my whole grade find out but they found out starting with the one girl I trusted with my biggest secret..... and of course he eventually found out and we haven't spoken since
=[ It's almost funny because I was the last person to hear the rumor about ME! I really regret telling her now because she's not even my friend anymore... and I lost what could have been a really great guy friend =[

When i was six years old, it was my first day of karate classes. and i was training with 2 other boys that were two years older then me. We were doing these things where you stand like your straddling a horse, and i had to pee extremely bad for probably an hour. The Master (someone high in karate status) was really mean (heard this idea from my siblings). So i was being shy and didnt want to ask to go to the bathroom. I couldnt hold it anymore and I just peed in the middle of the gym... the guys started laughing. I just stood there, and the master went to get my mom and when we got in the car i started crying. of course, but later that day the one boy came to my house to apologize. luckly i wasnt home! Looking back it was extremely embarrsing, but i love laughing at myself, so it was really funny!

One of my most embarresing moments was when i was at my boyfriends house. I was there with my friend, and my boyfriend had a this swing chair, kind of like a hammock chair. It was connected to the ceiling of where we were at. I was sitting in it, kind of rocking back and forth talking to my boyfriend. And all of a sudden, the hammock chair completley falls on the ground! And im laughing so hard, and im spread out on the floor. My face is bright red, and i look like a starfish on the floor, my legs were spread out as so was my arms. And my boyfriend was trying so hard not to laugh. Then to make it even better, my boyfriends mother came running in, and started to laugh, and was like, are you okay? I could barley breath i was laughing so hard. And my friend was laughing hard too. I laugh everytime i think of it, i am laughing as i write this actually. It was so embarrsing, i mean..i broke my boyfriends hammock chair! Oh, and to make it
EVEN BETTER, it was the first time i came over to his house!

Okay. Picture this-Middle School main hallway right after lunch. Jam packed with students.
I was walking down that long hall with my "friend". Or at least that was what I thought. Everyone was shouting and just being kids. I was just the same as all of them talking with my friend. All of a sudden i felt her leg in front of mine and I was suddenly lying flat on the floor. She had tripped me. Everything from my binder had spilled out onto the floor in front of me. Everyone saw my wipeout. My friend helped me up, but that didn't make me forgive her. I remember these two girls coming up to me and singing "It's a Hard Knock Life" and having everyone join in. My new jeans had torn on the knees and I was bleeding. Sure, it's funny now, but it definitely wasn't then. People STILL taunt me about that day and I laugh along.

There's a story that's almost EXACTLY like mine, and she has my name! It was one of the first days of my Tae-Kwon-Do (a form of martial arts) and I had to go to the bathroom. I was afraid to ask Mr. Mast, my teacher, and so I held it until it was too late. I spilled in front of the entire class, and have been embarassed because of it ever since.

My bf wouldn't talk to me (or look at me, for that matter) for like, 3 weeks! No lie!

I can't really pick a most embarrassing moment because I am really clumsy A LOT, but it probably would have been at performance camp this summer, I was coming onstage during a run-through of the show to do a number and I was wearing my super slippery character shoes. Well, I went in too fast and the next thing I knew when I tried to stop was that I was sliding across the stage on one foot, and I almost bumped into the girl dancing next to me. That would have been a disaster! The directors burst out laughing, and I laughed to myself, too. I think it's good to learn to laugh at yourself when you make mistakes, because that happens to me all the time, and if I weren't able to laugh at myself all the time, I would be miserable.

*deep breath* ok so here it goes. Last year I was at school (NOOOOO!!!!!!) and it was luchtime and I was outside with my BFF. This really annoying kid from my class was making fun of me in front of EVERBODY, and I mean EVERYBODY (WHY did they all have to be outside?!?!) and then he made me spill my pepsi. He was really askin for it so I started walkin torwards him then he took off and so did I. I was chasing him and I grabbed his shirt but he pulled away and the next thing I knew I was lying flat on my face. EVERYBODY saw and they were ALL laughing at me!!! It was horrible. Of course my BFF was there to help me but it was so bad cuz I had HUGE grass and dirt stains ALL OVER my pants!!!! I looked and felt horrible. What's even WORSE, I had science the next period with the kid who I was chasing. The whole class picked on me for the next two weeks. i was the talk of the school. Uhg. Yeah, i don't really get embarrased anymore cuz so many things have happened to me. I was o.k. but my pants were ruined.

Okay, ya'll have SUCH embarassing moments mine doesn't seem so bad, but here it goes:
I had this special gym class at our local college and it was with my whole class and there were a couple 9th graders there, okay? Well we were playing basketball and everyone was running "upcourt" or whatever you call it and I didn't see this one 15 year old guy coming up the court (I was looking backwards for SOME reason) and I smacked RIGHT into him! I fell right onto my face and EVERYONE (I mean everyone on the track, workout room, court, etc.) was laughing at me!!!!! I was SOOOOOOO embarassed!!!!

In 6th grade I had a really big crush on the youth ministers son, and my friend told me that he liked me too. So in my science class (by the front of our school) one day i decided to write him a note, just flirting a little. My teacher walks by and takes the note up, reads it, gets tape and places the note on the outside of her door for everyone who walks by to see! On a separate sheet of paper in big red letters she wrote: A LOVE NOTE FROM HANNAH TO COLT!
I was extremely humiliated, but later that night he called me, i explained everything to him, and he "asked me out". We "dated" for 3years, then he moved! Through out our relationship we would go back to the time thsat Mrs. K put my love note on the door! =)

my most recent embarrassing moment was a few weeks ago. we were having a work period for this big project due in science, and she (my science teacher) let us take the laptops to our desks. the period was almost over, so as i was going to put my laptop away, i tripped over a chair that someone had forgotten to push in. i looked around, hoping no one had seen me, but then this boy in my class yells out "no one saw that hannah!" and the whole class starts laughing.

This just happened recently, I was over @ my friend's farm down the road, helping her load her 4-H steer into a trailer. We had to sort him out of about 100 other cows, so we finally got him cornered and her dad opened the gate. Well, the trailer was parked blocking one entrance, but there was a side alley-way thing going off to the side. Her dad mumbled something, and I thought he told me to move over to the side so I wouldn't chase the cow back in...so I did. The cow ran out of the pen past me...and right down the alley. Her dad had actually told me to guard that, but I couldn't tell what he was saying. And I'm supposed to know what I'm doing!!
Then we got back to her house after taking the steer to get a tag in his ear, and we were unloading him. My friend suggested that I guard the alley. I walked over to block it, but her dad walked over and just shut the gate, basically saying that I didn't know what I was doing!!! It was soooo humiliating!!!

I can't really remember a recent embarrassing moment, but last year my bf (ex now) asked me to go eat out with he and his parents. It went pretty smoothly until he was walking me to the door. I had on a VERY long skirt (i hate it & idk why i wore it) and i took a step up and stepped on my skirt... when it i did my purse i was carrying went flying in the yard and almost fell flat on my face!!! he went & got it for me (i'm pretty sure he might of laughed tho...). i still get embarrassed thinking about! thankfully i don't think he told anyone.

When i was in 5th grade I had a friend who was hilarious. i mean she could be a comedian that would make the whole crowd turn red from laughing. So we were at lunch and i was sitting next to her and this other girl. so the comedian girl said something funny and before lunch had started i really had to go to the restroom!!so i started laughing and i laughed so hard i peed my pants just a tiny bit. so i went to the restroom and made sure NOBODY was in the restroom and started drying my "hands" under the dryer. for the rest of that day i wore a long sweatshirt.

i have two stories - one is actually something that happened to my friend.
my friend's story:
ok so, about a year ago, the two year 6/7 classes at my school went to a swimming centre for an end-of-year excursion. although we felt quite awkward (being rather flat-chested) my friend and i decided to wear just bikinis and boardies. i had been meaning to tell my friend that her bikini top was quite loose but it was too late - she got out of the pool after a big dive and to her horror, found that one of her boobs was hanging out the bottom of her bikini. and to make things worse two of the most popular kids in school (one who she had a crush on) saw everything.
my story:
so when i was really little (six, maybe seven) i was at a ballet class and i REALLY had to pee. we were in the middle of learning some steps and the whole class was running around the room while the teacher stood up the front instructing, so i was too scared to go up and interupt her to ask to go to the toilet. i tried my best to hold it in but i failed miserably! the most embarrasing part was that some ended up on the floor. i still cringe whenever i think of it. :)

one time i was at the store with my mom and my 9 year old little brother. my little brother was in the next aisle looking at toys, so my mom asked me if i needed a new razor. i said, "no, i still have one at home that i haven't used." my little brother walked up just in time to hear me say that and asked what i was talking about. before i could stop her, my mom told him that we were talking about razors and shaving. he didn't stop teasing me about it for the whole week.

In the beginning of 7th grade, I broke my tailbone (ouch!) By the last half of 8th grade, it STILL hadn't healed. In addition to having to do the handicap situps in P.E. (embarrassing), my mom made me one of those special pillows that takes the pressure of your tailbone when you sit. I had to take it to SCHOOL and carry it around with me from class to class. My best friend liked to tease me all the time and call it my "butt pad." I worked in the lunchroom and one day a boy in my grade came up to my window with a big grin, handed me my pillow through the window and said, "Hey Courtney, you left your butt pad!"

Wow, these are funny and they're making me feel sooo much better about what happened recently. :)
Ok so two days ago, on friday, I was at school and I was on my period, well yeah, apparantly I didnt come prepared and at lunch this girl I know decided to tell me I had something on the back of my pants. I waited until lunch was over, then my best friend walked behind me while I took my tray up and walked to the attendance office to call my parents. It was horrible. And then when I got my stuff and was headed to check out, I started crying. I was so humiliated. To make things even worse I passed the guy that likes me (he is one of my closest guy friends) and he turned around and came running after me. It was really sweet, but i didnt want him to know what happened. He made me feel alot better and even got me to laugh. Now that I think about it...I'm really grateful he was there. He gave me a hug right before I left and it made me feel so much better. Then later I found out that girl told my boyfriend what had happened and he said people were making fun of me, which pretty much knocked my spirits down again. I dont know what im going to do on tuesday when I go back to school. Im scared to go to lunch, but I think I can do it. :) Wish me luck.
