If you haven’t heard, the latest buzz surrounding the Jonas Brothers’ trio headlines their commitment to sexual purity. As stated in Details Magazines (March 2008):
“On a quiet Friday morning in a dressing room at Madison Square Garden, the Jonas Brothers hold out their hands to show off their purity rings. Kevin, Joe, and Nick Jonas - the teen-pop trio who stand, at this very moment, on the brink of hugeness - wear the metal bands on their fingers to symbolize, as Joe puts it, "promises to ourselves and to God that we'll stay pure till marriage."
While the brothers have received much criticism from the media, the rings are “just one of our ways of kind of like being different than everybody else out there,” according to Nick.
Bravo boys! Thanks for standing up for what you believe even when the media and the industry may not agree. Even though you are constantly adored by screaming girls - you’ve managed keep your promise to purity in spite of the overwhelming pressures around you!
I am reminded of I Corinthians 2:11-16. In a nutshell, the world does not understand the things of God because they do not have the Spirit of God in their lives. According to verse 14, "The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned." For those of us who believe and are followers of Christ, "we have the mind of Christ" and therefore understand His commands and ways. Yes, this means we are to live according to a higher calling, even when the world thinks it foolish and foreign.
So, we applaud you for not following suit with the countless teen superstars that have preceded you. Keep it up!
Background:
Mostly touting “True Love Waits,” purity rings first made their debut in the 90’s. A movement targeting teens, purity rings are a pubic display of one’s choice to remain sexually abstinent until marriage.

Is it bad not to be wearing a purity ring? I like the idea, however I pray to God that He'll make me strong enough to be able to deal with that type of pressure. i already made that promise to God, should I wear a purity ring to finalize it????

WOW!!! I never would have guessed that the Jonas Brothers did that! I always did think they were a neat band!!! I also like the idea of a purity ring, but I wonder if it's OK to have a purity necklace or bracelet etc. I have made my promise to God and myself, but I think I'm going to look into getting a purity ring!!!
p.s. GO JONAS BROTHERS!!!

Randylyn (if you are reading this).
it is awesome that you have made that promise to God. you don't HAVE to wear a promise ring to make it official, although it does make a fashion statement. :-)

ok,,, alot of people started to wear purity ring just because the jonas brothers wear them,,
its not a bad thing,, but some people arnt taking it serriously,
i think that if you are going to get one, be truthful about it, it has nothing to do with the jonas brother; its about a promise to god and to yourself.

Hey i want a purity rings so bad but i don't want the kids at school to make fun of me because I'm still a virgin. But now that I know that the Jonas Brothers have one it makes me more confident to have one.

I've been wearing a purity ring for almost 4 years. I take it very seriously and admire that people in the media are starting to do the same. This world is over-sexed and needs a Christian movement across the nation. I just pray that God brings people out of the darkness into his light.

I think its really great they are doing this! Its great to know there are other people that have the same conviction! Im seriuosly considering getting a ring to symbolize the commitment I had already made, oh and yeah it really has to a be a serious commitment or the ring is meaningless!
Sweet!
hope they stick to it!

I think it's great for some guys to come out and not be ashamed to stand up for purity. It's something you will never regret. Unfortunatly Hollywood does not seem to understand that. Stand up for what is right Jonas brothers are youth need more positive role models and need to know it's o.k. to stay pure and not give into the pressures of the mainstream media who obviously do not know what's best for our youth.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having a purity ring OR being a virgin. Have any of you ever heard anyone say "I wish I'd had sex with so-and-so"? Or have you heard more of "I wish I hadn't"? I'm 37 y/o, divorced, with 3 children and recently purchased a purity ring for myself. After recommitting myself to God I realized that this was one area that needed to be worked on. The ring is an outward reminder (and indication) of that commitment. If someone feels you aren't worth waiting for, then they're not worth being with!
