From the Associated Press:
NEW YORK (AP) - An angry Jennifer Love Hewitt is defending her curves after photos of her in a bikini were ridiculed on the Internet. "I've sat by in silence for a long time now about the way women's bodies are constantly scrutinized," the 28-year-old actress writes on her Web site.
"To set the record straight, I'm not upset for me, but for all the girls out there that are struggling with their body image."
The photos show Hewitt, with a bit of cellulite, on a Hawaii beach with her new fiance, Scottish actor Ross McCall.
Several sites posted the shots, along with some less-than-complimentary comments. TMZ.com, for example, said, "We know what you ate this summer, Love — everything!"
"A size 2 is not fat! Nor will it ever be," Hewitt responded in a post Thursday. "And being a size 0 doesn't make you beautiful."
Finally, someone has the guts to speak up about the culture's narrow definition of beauty. TMZ.com recently posted a picture of the Hero's starlet, Hayden Panettiere, 21, with cellulite visible on her backside. If you don't know her from Heroes, you might remember her from "Remember the Titans" where she played the part of the Coach's adorable daughter. I hate for these girls that they have to contend with paparazzi aiming a camera lens at them at all times, but maybe it will begin to break down the culture's lie regarding beauty. I hope young women (and the guys) are paying attention: Women come in all shapes and sizes and cellulite is normal.
You tell us - what's your reaction?

Thank goodness someone is speaking out and loud!!! I wonder how some of those paparazzi people would feel if they woke up one morning and saw their lives plastered on the front cover of every tabloid and magazine revealing their eating habits, their relationships and not to mention their fat rolls!!! I want to grab the world's largest megaphone ( is there were such a thing) and shout "God loves you for who you are!!!"

Thank you!!! It's about time someone stood up and said something!! I'm so tired of society thinking that being a size 0 is the only way to be truly beautiful. That's just not reality. I'm a size 8 and I like my curves. But, sometimes I feel really bad when I see what society says " I'm supposed to look like." Celebrities aren't perfect either. If you had a makeup artist, a hair stylist, wardrobe and all, you'd look just as good as they do.

Wow!!! I am so thrilled to hear this. I really appreciate it. So many people struggle with body images simply because of the media. I used to have an eating disorder. I was a size 00 for more than a year. Now I am a 5 and I love my body. I feel so much better about myself now. I eat right and I made the decision to not let the media influence me. God made women in all shapes and sizes. Not just one.

oh, yeah! you go girl! I'm just waiting for someone to start supporting and standing up for modesty, which is obviously something Jennifer Love Hewitt is NOT doing. but we'll take it one step at a time, and I'm proud of her for standing up for what is right (even if she does wear the very ridiculously small size of 2 :)

it's about time that someone steps forward and says the truth!
its ok to not be a size zero as long as
you love yourself the way you are. and obviously it's ok to be a size zero and a healthy person and also love yourself. the most important thing is that you love yourself for the beautiful person that God made you!

Yeeha Jennifer! Honestly I get so sick and tired of all the stuff tabloids give celebrities, don't they realise almost everyone has to deal with stuff like cellulite? Woop! Big Deal! Jennifer Love-Hewitt has cellulite like the rest of the 99% of people who do. Her having cellulte sets reasonable standards for the rest of us. IF people see her as imperfect-that's cool. We're all imperfect

You go Jen! Finally, a celeb who will speak out and say it's not healthy to have a skewed view of your weight in relationship with beauty. Although I am thin, being thin has never made me feel like I'm beautiful.
In America, we are OBSESSED with the celebrity lifestyle and the celebs themselves. We put them on this elevated level, when if you think about it, they are just normal people working for a living. (Acting IS considered a profession!)I think the American population should let go of this obsession with the rich and famous, and with the veiw that being thin equals being beautiful.

YEEES!!! Some one who is in the limelight is finally speaking out to defend the way our bodies are made. That no matter what size we are, we are beautiful!!! This we definately need more of... and the next thing to be addressed, the low necklines ! Please someone address this next!..... :)

I just don't understand why we expect celebrities to look perfect all the time. If normal people have a little jiggle, that's okay, but not if you're famous. Also, if a celebrity starts to lose weight the press will immediately say they have an eating disorder! It just isn't fair.

FINALLY a celebrity that says you don't have to super tiny to be pretty. I sometimes think that I need to be tiny but i then just remember that God made me me so i know tha it s ok to bigger than a size 2 and a celeb says that.

Finally, some has spoken up for todays teen girls and how they look. People think that they have to be a size 2 to be pretty, but you don't. I'm a size 7 or 9 in juniors and I'm just fine with that. God made us just the way he wanted us to be, and in his eyes, we are perfect. So, don't worry what size of jean your in, just love the Lord. Oh yeah, you go Jennifer. That rocks that she stood up for herself. I don't know why today's culture expects celebrities to look perfect all of the time. Even the most fit people have a little celutlite. Its ok.... I'm just glad that this got addressed. :)

I LOVE JENNIFER!
I'm thin, but even I realize how important it is to love who you are! Sometimes I even WISH I could gain some weight because I think I'm too thin. I'm so glad a celebrity finally spoke up about this, because we all know Hollywood isn't going to listen to anyone else.

go jennifer! i love it that a celebrity is finnally saying that it's ok to be imperfect. we all are but we are also fearfully and wonderfully made. i must confess that i am a size one but it's cuz im a younger teen and still growin but i dont care what jean size u r just know God luvs u the way u r. thats y he created u the way u r. :-)

YEEEESSSSS!!!!! I'm so glad that someone, and a celeb at that, has finally spoken out! It don't matter if you're a 2 or a 20! Just because someone isn't a 00 in junior's sizes, it don't make them ugly! I have dealt with hating how I look, and I'm tired of it! I weigh 138.5, I wear a size 11 in juniors (and sometimes THATS too small) and I'm proud of it. It's one thing to be healthy and in shape, and thats REALLY important, but it's another to be anorexic(nsr). I'm really thankful that y'all have put this up for everyone to see! Now if only we can get someone (celeb) to speak out about dressing modestly....oh well, at least someone spoke about being okay with your appearance. LoTs O lOvEs FrOm PoPlArViLlE, MiSsIsSiPpI!!
*$%KaTiE bUg%$*

YES!!!You go Jenifer!! I cant believe someone is finally standing up in Hollywood and saying that it is ok to have a little bit of fat! All I have to say is stay healthy and exercise, and it does not matter if you are a size 2 or 20, because I am a size 10 and PROUD OF IT!!!!!
Posted by Anonymous | January 1, 2008 1:28 PM
I really dislike all the fuss over how someone should or shouldn't look, especially famous people so I'm really thankful someone finally decided to speak out. I really wish someone would speak up about dressing modestly now....
Still, I'm really glad!

OMG, I can't believe anyone thinks that a size 2 is fat! I mean, I'm 14 and I wear a size 1 in juniors jeans, and if in the next 5-10 years I gained only 1 size more I'd probably die of starvation!

I do NOT think girls (or guys) should be judged by how they look! Us girls may not have the modle body all the time but that does not mean we should be turned out like garbage! we should be judged by the way we act not the way we look!
