Role models worth keeping?

In recent news, Nicole spent 82 minutes in jail for a DUI due to overcrowding regulations, while Lohan plead guilty making the following statement:

"It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drug[s].

Recently, I relapsed and did things for which I am ashamed. I broke the law, and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case. No matter what I said when I was under the influence on the day I was arrested, I am not blaming anyone else for my conduct other than myself. I thank God I did not injure others. I easily could have.

I very much want to be healthy and gain control of my life and career and have asked for medical help in doing so. I am taking these steps to improve my life. Luckily, I am not alone in my daily struggle and I know that people like me have succeeded. Maybe with time it will become easier. I hope so.”

Why are we all so fascinated by the likes of Lohan, Brittney, Paris and Nicole? We would all agree that these ladies are not good role-models by any stretch, but we find ourselves drawn to the endless headlines featuring their ever-so not normal lifestyles of fame and fortune! Is this a new Hollywood fad for the sake of positive press attention; or have these ladies come to the realization that they must take responsibility for their actions?

In the end, they will be accountable to God for their actions (as will we), but I can’t help but wonder what impact their choices have made on today’s youth. Have they glamorized the jail scene and made rehab look like a posh vacation? Or has their behavior turned us off from the lifestyle they live?

As the headlines continue to update us on the lives of Lohan and Nicole, I recognize that their sphere of influence is still at work. But would we even call them role models?

So then, when it comes to role models in our lives, what exactly are we looking for? Tell us, who is your mentor and why? What are top three qualities you look for in a role model?
