You Tube: The good, the bad, and the just plain funny
By: Vicki Courtney
I’m betting that most of you have probably paid a visit to YouTube by now. YouTube made it possible for average folks (that would be you and me) to become a producers, directors, or even the stars of our own show. Oh, and let’s not forget the unwilling stars who become famous overnight after getting caught on camera doing something, um well, worthy of a laugh. Like the poor woman who was being interviewed by a local news anchor while stomping in a bucket of grapes. One day, she was a simple vineyard operator, until that is, she took a little tumble during the interview. Some 300,000+ views later, today she is the now famous “grape lady.”
So, I guess my question is this: Is it possible to love both Jesus and YouTube at the same time? I guess the answer depends on what you are viewing (or posting). As is true with most forums of technology, there is both good and evil. In the end, you will have to learn to monitor yourself. Listen carefully for the Holy Spirit’s nudge and obey promptly if He tells you to “x” out of the screen. In the meantime, enjoy one of my all-time favorite YouTube clips of four darling college boys from Auburn University impersonating (mocking?) their favorite boy band. And for the record, the curly-headed boy in the red shirt is my son. I’m told they’re currently taking song requests for their next performance. Any ideas?
