Jimmy Needham

I liked Jimmy Needham the very first time I heard the song Dearly Loved. The lyrics, the sound, all of it. How do you not like lyrics like these? (You can hear it here on his MySpace page)

To the slaughters you are being led
Being told that it's a party
That this God is in your head
And every single lie
Sounds just like the greatest truth
But the one truth you're not hearing
Is that he died for you

So good. So true. Then the other day I went to see what he had to say for himself on his website (http://www.jimmyneedham.com) and I liked that too. Here are a few quotes that I feel like a lot of us can probably relate to:

“Many of the songs on my first album were birthed out my frustration with friends who claimed to love the Lord but were going out and getting hammered every weekend,”

“I discovered that zeal and passion for God is a good thing, but if you don’t love people, it doesn’t count for much,”

There's a lot more worth reading and listening to so go check him out when you have a little free time and here's another great song if you want to hear more:

oh my gosh oh my gosh oh my gosh!!!
i have been a HUGE fan of jimmy needham's ever since i heard his song forgiven and loved! the song is one of my favorites because it basically talks about how you he tries and tries to earn his own salvation, but in reality he doesn't have to because Jesus took care of that on the cross. here are the lyrics:

tell me i'm forgiven and loved/'cause i hear it from the street corner priests/on how God is love and how man can be clean/but my joy has been on holiday/and my peace has almost passed away/tell me i'm forgiven and freed/oh i tried, i tried to rectify/my hopeless situation/but i bought the lie/i still have work to do/now i'm workin' nine to five/like i can earn my own salvation/but there is no condemnation in You/oh whisper to me now/that it's for real/'cause in the silence of these walls/righteousness lost its appeal/dirty deeds have done me in/oh but that can't stop the faithful friend/givin' mercy once again as You heal/hear it is i'm feelin' it/oh i tried, i tried to rectify/my hopeless situation/but i bought the lie/i still have work to do/now i'm workin' nine to five/like i can earn my own salvation/but there is no condemnation/oh He died, He died to rectify/my hopeless situation/and His blood commands my guilt to leave/now on Calvary i stand/empty pockets open hands/oh there is no condemnation for me/oh i tried/oh i tried, i tried to rectify/my hopeless situation/but i bought the lie/i still have work to do/now i'm workin' nine to five/like i can earn my own salvation/but there is no condemnation in You/child, you're forgiven and loved/child, you're forgiven and loved/child, you're forgiven and loved/child, you're forgiven and loved/

i LOVE this man's music. i have not come across any of his songs that i didn't like. i have to say, God really gave this guy musical talent as well as the ability to write such honest lyrics.

my favorite words come from "Come Around." as an at-home student missionary, hearing the lyrics to this song really reminded me of a vital part of evangelism: there is nothing on this earth that I can possibly do to convert these people to Christianity.
But no, it's not my strength or what I can do. It's all about what Christ can do and has already done.

"they just don't mean much if I don't have Jesus in it."
